WE DRAW

16 November 2013 to 5 January 2014

Cardiff Drawing Group - CDG - will be holding an exhibition at Butetown History and Arts Centre (BHAC) in lower Bute Street, Cardiff Bay. The exhibition WE DRAW presents fifteen drawings selected and curated to show something of the range of work produced by the members of the group.

 

Cardiff Drawing Group was established in 2002 with meetings being held in various locations including arts centres, museums, pubs and parks. The group has previously exhibited at Cowbridge Arts Centre, The Hayes Old Library Building, Art Central in Barry and other local venues.

There will be a digital catalogue featuring the work of current group members to accompany this show.

Hats on for The Gower

Monday 9 Sept 2013 at 7pm

Aimee has volunteered to model for a figure sketching session on Monday 9 September from 8pm to 9pm at THE GOWER PUB, Gwennyth Street, Cathays, Cardiff, CF24 4PH

Since this is one week before the current 'handing in' date for the BHAC drawing exhibition, it is a good opportunity to discuss proposed or completed drawings before handing in.

Please bring your work along, we'll be meeting in the lounge one hour earlier, at 7pm.

Richard has visited the pub and discovered that a small group of musicians with banjos etc. will take up the lounge from 9pm onwards.  
We could stay on for a while to draw these music makers!

Llandaff Fields

Monday 9 Sept 2013 at 7pm

A recent CDG request for a figure sketching session resulted in Aimee kindly volunteering for clothed model poses on Monday 9 September from 8pm to 9pm at THE GOWER PUB, Gwennyth Street, Cathays, Cardiff, CF24 4PH

Cardiff Museum

National Museum Cardiff - free entry
Current exhibitions include Visions of Mughal India and the Crawshay Portraits.
As well as art (paintings, drawings, sculpture, silver and ceramics) the museum has archaeology, geology and natural history collections.

Cosmeston

A little sketching session at Cosmeston Country Park, Penarth.
Lakes, medieval village, nature, wildlife, bird-watching, walking.
Open all year, free of charge.

Tuesday 20 August 2013 from 6pm

This month, instead of an evening in the Lansdowne Pub, we will be meeting by the Café Castan, Llandaff Fields for a park drawing session (landscape, trees, people at play, strollers, dog walkers, sports & games).

An hour or so sketching and then into the Halfway Pub about 8pm for a drink.
We will do the drawing THEN the drinking!!!
Also a chance to plot some CDG drawing events that may supply the subject matter for our upcoming exhibition at Butetown History & Arts Centre.

Cafe Castan is at the top of Cathedral Road, Pontcanna, just at the south-east corner of Llandaff Fields (car parking available).

The Halfway Pub is nearby, on the other side of Cathedral Road.

We're drawing at the National Museum, Cardiff (free entry) this Sunday morning from 10:30 to 12:30

What's On at the National Museum : Crawshay Portraits
A small exhibition of portrait paintings from the 1830's of workers from Francis Crawshay's ironworks at Hirwaun and tinplate works at Treforest. The subjects include manual workers as well as managers, all depicted in working dress and with the tools of their trade.

Meet near the coffee shop in the Main Hall.

25 July meeting

A busy, chatty evening, discussing venues for future sketching events and information about a CDG members' show this autumn, at the Butetown History & Arts Centre, Cardiff Bay.

We had a great morning drawing at Lavernock Battery. Fine weather, interesting location and a family joined in with our sketching session!!!

An exhibition showcasing a collection of artists who have been inspired by the beautiful and mesmerising Glamorgan Heritage Coast. Enjoy a diverse range of paintings, photography, textiles, ceramics, poetry, film and music as well as meet the artists.

Drawing at Lavernock Battery

A special location for some interesting drawing on Sunday 19th May.
Park and meet next to the church at Lavernock Point at 11am.
It's a short walk to the nature reserve and path to the battery area.
Also nearby is the Marconi Club for coffee etc.
Event arranged by Heather

Lavernock Battery stands isolated and abandoned high above the Penarth costline at the northern most point of a chain of defences across the Bristol Channel. These concrete remains are part of an anti-aircraft defence system built during World War II.

CDG meeting Tuesday 30 April 2013 at 7pm

At Sue Shield's drawing session last month in the Lansdowne Pub, it was thought that it would be a good place to have a long overdue group meeting.

Lets meet to pay our membership fees, organise personalised membership card for discounts, discuss updating our web page, meet new members etc.

Lets drink... meals / snacks are available (pre-arranged buffets are available, pub has connections with the Potted Pig, Cardiff)

Lets draw as well.

The Broadway Drawing School

The Broadway Drawing School is located in the friendly surroundings of a working artist’s studio and is dedicated to providing a unique choice of professional drawing instruction at all levels. Courses are led by Dr Jac Saorsa (visual artist, writer and researcher).

From beginners' mark-making to advanced drawing techniques, these courses can be complemented by weekly ‘drop in’ life drawing classes, all-day and 2-day intensive workshops, location drawing classes and one to one tuition.

Drawing at The Pumping Station

Jan Bennett has arranged an afternoon of drawing at The Pumping Station, Penarth Road, Cardiff from 2 - 5 pm on Tuesday 19 February 2013.

"Established in an old Victorian pumping house, The Pumping Station is home to arguably the most eclectic mix of traders this side of the Severn Bridge. With more than 35 different traders under one roof, it is easy to while away an entire afternoon at this welcoming destination".

Sometimes We Look

Marega Palser combines her training in dance and fine art at Chapter, Cardiff. A performing exhibition of her work, this site specific combination of dance, drawing, animation and printmaking investigates how the simple use of mark-making can affect the way movement can be created, and how dance, in turn, can affect the impulse to draw.

The Derwent Art Prize

A new prize for pencil artists working with coloured pencils, water-soluble pencils, pastel pencils, graphite or charcoal, The Derwent Art Prize winner will receive £5,000. Deadline for entries is 1 July 2013.
